POSITION SUMMARY

HIAS Greece is seeking an MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Services) Caseworker to join its small, yet growing and dynamic team based in Greece. The MHPSS Caseworker will be based in Athens and work together with the project’s partners, with particular focus in Ukrainian women who arrive in Greece as they flee from conflict in their home country. The MHPSS Caseworker is expected to provide technical services in support of vulnerable migrants, refugees to ensure they access all the appropriate services and information as well as have improved mental health and psychosocial well-being. This position will work within the framework of the IASC guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support in emergency settings and Sphere standards. This position reports to MHPSS Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts individual and family needs assessments to develop action plans, deliver direct service provision, referrals and follow ups.
  • Escort vulnerable individuals and families to ensure access to services and/or advocate for specific rights as needed.
  • Coordinate with the MHPSS coordinator to monitor and identify evolving social and mental health needs among arriving Ukrainians.
  • Plan and implement community-based mental health and psychosocial support group interventions, eg. group info sessions, psychoeducation groups.
  • Coordinate with the focal points of the Ukrainian Info Point in Athens to manage information dissemination and address social requests.
  • Follow up all referral cases and coordinate with implementing partners as needed.
  • Preparation of timely, quality, and comprehensive reports to inform program planning and decision-making.
  • Maintain a tracker for all case actions conducted within office and outreach centers.
  • Coordinate with partners and local organizations to create linkages for refugees for promotion of quality referral pathways, strengthening MHPSS services and ensuring integration of MHPSS concerns to different protection, legal and other sectors.
  • Perform other duties within the MHPSS scope as needed and as requested by the line manager

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology or related humanities field
  • Minimum of 5 years working in MHPSS programming; preference for candidates who have previous experience with direct service provision to vulnerable refugee and migrant populations.
  • Demonstrated experience with dealing with vulnerable populations, especially refugees or asylum seekers, with severe mental health conditions, GBV and child protection cases within the Greek legislative context.
  • Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations framework
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.
  • Responsible, Professional and with Integrity
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written).
  • Must have the rights to work and live in Greece
  • Comfortable with computer and messaging services; e.g. Outlook, Ms-Office and Internet.
